Do I Need a Structural Engineer?
Structural Engineering is a very broad field that encompasses many different fields of engineering. Architectural engineering encompasses the field of building construction, planning, and design as well as many other areas such as sustainable architecture, environmental engineering, civil engineering, fire protection, building and construction materials, energy efficiency, and sustainable systems. This is only a small sample of what structural engineers do and all architectural professions fall under the large umbrella of structural engineering. Many architectural engineers also perform some of the non-structural duties of an architect as we will see shortly. Some of the jobs architectural engineers perform are as follows; they build homes, offices, and buildings and design the structural integrity of these structures in order to be safe and functional.
